Forschung

Mich begeistert die enorme Vielfalt an Formen und Funktionen von Blüten, und mit meiner Forschung gehe ich den Fragen nach wie diese Diversität entstanden ist und wie sie erhalten wird. Konkret beschäftige ich mich mit den Ursachen und Konsequenzen phänotypischer Variationen in Blütenmerkmalen zwischen Populationen, Arten und Pflanzengemeinschaften mit Hinblick auf die Interaktion mit Blütenbesuchern. So untersuche ich insbesondere welche Rolle Bestäuber für evolutive Prozesse wie natürliche Selektion von Blütenmerkmalen, adaptive Diversifikation und reproduktiver Isolation spielen. Darüber hinaus untersuche ich, welchen Einfluss andere umgebende abiotische und biotische Umweltfaktoren auf die Interaktionen zwischen Blüten und ihren Bestäubern haben wie beispielsweise die Variation von Blüte-Bestäuber Interaktionen entlang von Umweltgradienten. Ganz besonders faszinieren mich dabei einerseits die Familie der Orchideen mit ihren teils hochspezialisierten Blüten und Interaktionen, und andererseits alpine Blütenpflanzen, die ganz besondere Strategien hervorgebracht haben in Anpassung an die herausfordernden abiotischen Bedingungen und die geringere unzuverlässigere Bestäuberfauna. Meine Herangehensweise basiert zumeist auf experimenteller Feldökologie, aber ich kombiniere dies auch gern mit Gewächshausexperimenten und chemischer Ökologie. Mein aktuelles Projekt "GolfBioDivers" beinhaltet eine Biodiversitätsanalyse ökologisch aufgwerteter Golfplätze.
